New transport hub Transferium Maasvlakte offers Gobike sharebikes

The new public transport hub ‘Transferium Maasvlakte’ is officially opened on April 24. The transferium has a new Gobike dockingstation with electric sharebikes. Employees and visitors of the Maasvlakte can now cycle to their destination quickly and comfortably. The Transferium stimulates the use of alternatives for motorised traffic, so travellers to the Maasvlakte are free in their transport choices.

Last-mile facilities improved

Gobike uitleenstation Transferium MaasvlakteThanks to the Fast Ferry, the RET offers a fast connection to and from Hoek van Holland-Berghaven. Bikes can be taken on board. Later this year, regular busses will also ride to the transferium. In addition to business transport, the electric sharebikes of Gobike provide a nice option to the final destination in the port area. It is expected that about 1,500 employees will use the Transferium by the end of 2018.

The ‘Transferium Maasvlakte’ is an important first step in order to work together on the further development of public and collective transport. That is why companies, transporters and other interested parties were welcome to discuss the opportunities offered by the Transferium.

Multimodal accessibility

Ronald Paul, COO of the Port of Rotterdam,  explains the importance of the Transferium Maasvlakte for the port area:

Approximately 7,000 people work at around fifty companies in the western port area. We expect at least 1,500 employees extra over the next three years as a result of the construction of a new distribution park and the expansion of other activities. That is why we focus on multimodal accessibility for commuters. Thanks to this public transport hub with busses, ferry and sharebikes, the Maasvlakte will be more accessible and the A15 highway less congested.”
